I know it says he beat Michael van Gerwen, but I still think it would have been helpful for this question to say it was the PDC championship rather than the BDO. (Both finished in January – the PDC on New Year's Day, the BDO on the 14th.)
Rob Cross actually beat van Gerwen (the reigning champion) in the semi-final, and Phil Taylor in the final.
